Next Gen dairy scholars on tour
  • 14 July 2025

Impressive line-up of Next Gen dairy scholars join Nuffield tour in Brittany,
France as part of their study programme.

2025 Next-Gen dairy scholars, Isabelle Deacon and Lewis Gibbin, joined the Nuffield
dairy tour to Normandy, France where they joined Scholars from Ireland, Australia
France and the Netherlands with a number of potential scholars from France and the
UK. They visited the Isigny St Mere Coop and several dairy farms as part of their 30-
day study programme.

The Next Gen 2025 programme, run by Nuffield Farming Trust and with dairy
scholars supported by the Trehane Trust, also includes visits to dairy farms and
businesses across the UK.

“This gives dairy scholars the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the
industry, gain experience and network within the sector,” says Trehane Trust chair
Diana Allen.

“As a dairy industry education trust, Trehane is very keen to help young entrants to
develop their careers in the sector and the Next Gen scheme is a good vehicle for
this. We have an impressive line-up of scholars this year.”

Their scholarships will culminate at the 2025 Nuffield Farming Conference in
Aberdeen, where they will present learnings and experiences from their Next Gen
experiences.

Lancashire-based Isabelle Deacon is a third-generation dairy farmer studying for a
BSc in Agriculture at Myerscough University Centre.
Lewis Gibbin is a Harper Adams University student who grew up on a dairy farm in
Carmarthenshire and has completed a placement at Huddlestone Farms in Sussex.
