About Us
Sir Richard Trehane retired as the Chairman of the Milk Marketing Board in 1977. To mark his a tremendous contribution to the Board and to the dairy industry worldwide a Trust was launched to provide awards for study of any aspect of the dairy industry.
Our Mission
The Trehane trust sets out to encourage learning and the gaining of valuable insight across the dairy supply chain.
The Trehane Trust’s objective is to educate the general public concerning dairying by the dissemination of information by any means, and in establishing and maintaining scholarships, exhibitions and bursaries to be awarded from time to time, to enable suitable candidates to engage in research and education into dairying, either in the UK or in other parts of the world.
The Trehane trustees are responsible for the Trust’s investments. It has a policy to minimise (and preferably avoid) any unethical investments that could tarnish its reputation. The policy is reviewed at the annual general meeting.
Our Aims
The Trehane Trust aims to deliver its purpose by attracting the next generation of dairy enthusiasts and leaders by sponsoring Nuffield Farming Awards and its own fellowships. It aims to ensure the studies undertaken make a positive contribution to the sector in the short and long term.
Past scholars have studied subjects relating to practical dairy farming as well as milk processing and retailing, and areas affecting industry and consumer relationships.
There are now more than 100 Trehane scholars, many of whom have put their study findings to valuable use and progressed their own careers and their contribution to the dairy industry.
Post study, scholars are encouraged to take part in study tours and networking groups across the industry.
